Impacto helps newsrooms build trust among audiences by tracking the impact of their reporting on communities and society. Impacto is backed by the Google News Initiative and the Institute for the Development of Journalism (Projor). Not only can this information improve editorial decisions, it can also bolster an outlet’s sustainability by demonstrating journalism’s value to donors and subscribers.

Impacto offers several ways of monitoring impact. Bots can search government websites, social networks and blogs gathering mentions of the newsroom and specific stories or series. Journalists can also manually add links and files showing the reach and significance of their work.

Potential impacts are recorded in a single dashboard that editors can use to better understand how reporting is amplifying investigations, prompting changes in public policy and changing lives.
